Happy NEW YEAR to all our RECOA Members and partners!!

2014 was a good year for our Club and to finish off my year I was able to attend the Melbourne and districts RECOA Members’ Christmas Party which was a splendid evening.

Cynthia and I met members we had only heard about and were able to re-aquaint ourselves with lots of others. It was great to see such a good roll-up of Members.

Thanks to Roy and Janet for putting us up (or putting up with us as the case may be).

2015 is going to be a fantastic year.

The major event will be the RE-run to Hutt in April and the AGM later in the year in Victoria.

Then interspersed are our rallys and various weekend excursions such as Braidwood in March, and day rides whenever we can put them on.

We should be getting in lots of kilometers on our REs.

It seems to me that more and more folk are seeing the merits and good sense of Royal Enfield ownership and that the 200hp motorcycle (still proliferating and raising the question of where that quest for more and more power is going) isn’t necessary to enjoy oneself on two wheels.

Even now I squirm when I read Stuart Woodbury or some other motorcycle journo extolling the excellence of XYZ motorcycle or motorscooter achieving a remarkable 5.5 litres per hundred kilometers when I know that most cars in Europe now do considerably better than that.

The disadvantage of the short stroke multi cylinder screamer is just how much fuel that such engines suck up.

But that’s not our problem riding our long stroke economical Royal Enfields. I can only foresee our Membership growing as folks realise that speed on a Royal Enfield can be just as exciting with far fewer OS moments.

See you on the road.
